The Attack of Pearl Harbor
On December 7, 1941, the Japanese attacked the naval base on Oahu. They attacked before eight in the morning, and the attack only lasted two hours. The Japanese destroyed almost twenty American ships, and over three hundred airplanes. Over two thousand soldiers died in the attack. It was because of this attack that America entered WWII, the day after the attack, FDR asked Congress to declare war on Japan. Congress approved this. Only one person, Representative Jeannette Rankin voted against the declaration of war. |
