I performed at all of the required games and at least two volunteer games. I think I should get an A for my pep band performing because I stayed for the whole game all the time, I helped carry stuff like the drum set up to the stage, and I crawled under the bleachers to retrieve trumpet mouthpieces more than once.
I think Pep band is important to the whole band because it shows that we support the basketball teams and all the players. If we only performed at concerts, we wouldn't be showing support, and no one would like us very much. That and only playing concert music all the time would get a little old, pep band puts a spark back into playing in band. I also think that pep band helps the basketball players get fired up for playing their game. My top three songs had to be Living on a Prayer, YMCA, and Wipeout. Living on a Prayer was a new song to me, and pretty interesting to hear, especially if you knew some of the words. YMCA is a familiar one, I've heard it in movies before, and I like it. It has all kinds of different instrument parts in it, which is fun to listen to. Wipeout was fun, because it had a really fast drum solo at the beginning, and it seemed to keep getting faster as the song went on. My bottom three songs were Lady Gaga, the first stadium song, and lets go band. These were not as fun to play because we kept repeating them in class and at games. And I generally don't like lady gaga stuff. The first stadium song was kind of just there for me, it didn't make a big impact like some of the others did. And lets go band was just the same thing over and over again. I do not think I improved with pep band, because mostly I was just tapping out a beat on the cowbell or the cabasa. I did not play the wipeout drum solo, mostly because I have never played the drums before and I couldn't quite figure out how to do it. I would add Axel F to the pep band list, it's by crazy frog.

Our first song, rejoice the season, is really fun to play. I'm playing the bass drum for that song. The one spot I was having trouble with was when the tune changed from fast and zippy to slow.
Once in Royal David's City This was a pretty song, I really liked it because even though it wasn't big and loud it still made you feel something. I had some trouble with this one, I played crash symbols, and didn't really know when and where to play. Grinch This was probably one of my favorites, I played the bell kit with Emma D. I had some trouble when the melody went into that swing portion. Christmas Eve What can I say, I had trouble with all of this one. I played the keyboard in the rythm section with the guitars. There were a lot of octaves in the beginning, and my hand was bruised for days afterwards. I really enjoyed playing this song, it was big and loud and the audience loved it. I thought I did pretty well with the scales, the ipad wasn't really picking it up when I played the scale. And it told me that I got a bunch of wrong notes, even though Ms. Chase told me I played it perfectly. So I think I got perfect on all of them. I think I could work on memorizing, I could take my scale sheet home and play them on our piano to help me remember them all. Hopefully I will improve and do well on the test.
My first impression of our first concert song, rejoice, the season, was that we need some work. I am on bass drum for that song and I didn't know what I was doing. I didn't know you could do eighth notes on a bass drum.
Miss Chase gave us our concert music today in class. She's having me play the piano keyboard for a Christmas song. My first impression of it was, 'oh my goodness, that's a lot of eighth notes and big chords!'. But I'll try it and I'll figure it out, even if I have to meet with Miss Chase or even Miss Nichole.
I met with my band teacher Thursday morning and she went over some scales on the timpani with me. Part of the problem with playing the timpani is that I have not played the piano in a long time and am really rusty. I can feel a little bit of the knowledge coming back to me now, though. . . . . . . .
I feel I have improved a little in my band progress. But not by much, especially with the timpani, that thing doesn't agree with me. I feel I have improved with the snare and bass drum. Playing a wood block is interesting, I feel like I'm punishing a piece of wood.
